Die in Erding geborene Mezzosopranistin Nina Schumertl sammelte ihre ersten Bühnenerfahrungen im Kinderchor der Bayerischen Staatsoper sowie im Bayerischen Landesjugendchor. Sie studierte Elementare Musikpädagogik und Klassischer Gesang an der Hochschule für Musik Würzburg u.a. bei Prof. Daniela Sindram und Prof. Christianne Stotijn. Ihren Master in Operngesang schloss sie mit Auszeichnung an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater „Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy“ Leipzig bei Prof. Carola Guber ab. Seit Oktober 2025 setzt sie ihre Ausbildung dort als Teil der Meisterklasse fort.
Ihr breites Opernrepertoire umfasst Partien wie Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), die Zweite Dame (Die Zauberflöte), Marcellina und Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), die Titelpartie in Brittens The Rape of Lucretia, Frau Reich (Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor), sowie Claudio in Händels Lucio Cornelio Silla.
Sie ist regelmäßiger Gast an der Oper Leipzig und sang dort an der Seite des Leipziger Gewandhausorchesters unter anderem das Sandmännchen (Hänsel und Gretel), Maddalena in Rossinis Il viaggio a Reims, Giovanna (Rigoletto) und Barbara (Regina von Albert Lortzing).
An der Kammeroper München verkörperte sie in über 40 Vorstellungen Marcellina in Figaros Hochzeit, sowie Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel im Münchner Cuvilliéstheater 2025. Zuletzt war sie dort als Adele Spitzeder in der neuen Operette Münchner Leben im Prinzregententheater München zu erleben.
In der nächsten Spielzeit erwarten sie weitere Engagements an der Oper Leipzig und an der Oper Halle.
Neben ihrer Operntätigkeit widmet sich Nina Schumertl intensiv dem Konzert- und Liedgesang. Sie ist als gefragte Konzertsängerin für geistliche und weltliche Musik national und international tätig. Gemeinsam mit der Pianistin Amelie Warner bildet sie ein mehrfach ausgezeichnetes Liedduo. Sie erhielten wertvolle Impulse durch die Liedklasse von Alexander Fleischer und Prof. Gerold Huber in Würzburg. Weitere wichtige Stationen waren die Udo-Reinemann-International-Masterclass in Brüssel mit einem eigenen Liederabend beim Festival Les Heures Romantiques entre Loir et Loire in Frankreich, das Finale des Internationalen Robert-Schumann-Wettbewerbs 2024 in Zwickau, zwei Preise bei der International Student Lied Duo Competition in Groningen 2024, der dritte Platz bei der Seghizzi Competition in Gorizia 2025 sowie Lied the way 2025 in Florenz. Das Duo wurde bei der erstmaligen Auflage des Wettbewerbsformates "Theatre in Song" der International Vocal Competition 2025 in S'Hertogenbosch mit einem Sonderpreis für die beste Programmgestaltung und Konzeption ausgezeichnet.
Schumertl ist zudem Preisträgerin des Leipziger Gesangspreises 2024, Förderpreisträgerin des Lions-Musikwettbewerbs 2022 (Distrikt Nordbayern) sowie Stipendiatin des Richard-Wagner-Verbandes Würzburg 2023. Wichtige künstlerische Impulse erhielt sie in Meisterkursen u. a. bei KS Brigitte Fassbaender, Laura Aikin, Werner Güra, KS Thomas Quasthoff, Christiane Iven, Julia Kleiter, Marlis Petersen, Anne Le Bozec und Arnold Bezuyen.
Darüber hinaus ist sie auch im Ensemble- und Chorgesang aktiv. Engagements führten sie u. a. zum Chor des Mainfrankentheaters Würzburg, zum SWR Vokalensemble und zum MDR Rundfunkchor. Im A-cappella-Bereich wurde sie vom Leipziger Ensemble amarcord gefördert.

Born in Erding, Germany, mezzo-soprano Nina Schumertl gained her first stage experience in the children’s choir of the Bavarian State Opera and the Bavarian State Youth Choir. She studied elementary music education and classical voice at the University of Music Würzburg with, among others, Prof. Daniela Sindram and Prof. Christianne Stotijn. She completed her master’s degree in opera singing with distinction at the University of Music and Theatre Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Leipzig, studying with Prof. Carola Guber. Since October 2025, she has continued her artistic development there as part of the master class.
Her wide-ranging operatic repertoire includes Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), the Second Lady (The Magic Flute), Marcellina and Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro), the title role in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, Frau Reich (The Merry Wives of Windsor), and Claudio in Handel’s Lucio Cornelio Silla.
Nina Schumertl is a regular guest at Leipzig Opera, where she has appeared alongside the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra in roles such as the Sandman (Hänsel und Gretel) and Maddalena in Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims. In the current season, she continues to perform there as Giovanna (Rigoletto) and Barbara (Regina).
At Munich Chamber Opera, she has sung Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro in over 40 performances and appeared as Hänsel in Dominik Wilgenbus’ acclaimed new production of Hänsel und Gretel at Munich’s Cuvilliés Theatre in 2025. In 2026, she was heard there as Adele Spitzeder in the new operetta Münchner Leben at the Prinzregententheater.
In addition to her operatic work, Nina Schumertl is deeply committed to concert and Lied performance. Together with pianist Amelie Warner, she forms a multi-award-winning Lied duo, having received important artistic impulses from the Lied classes of Alexander Fleischer and Prof. Gerold Huber in Würzburg. Their artistic milestones include participation in the Udo Reinemann International Masterclass in Brussels with a solo recital at the festival Les Heures Romantiques entre Loir et Loire in France, the final of the International Robert Schumann Competition 2024 in Zwickau, prizes at the International Student Lied Duo Competition in Groningen (2024), third prize at the Seghizzi Competition in Gorizia (2025), and participation in this year’s Lied the way workshop. At the International Vocal Competition ’s-Hertogenbosch 2025, the duo received a special prize for best programme design and artistic concept in the inaugural Theatre in Song competition format.
Nina Schumertl is also a prize winner of the Leipzig Singing Prize 2024, a scholarship recipient of the Lions Music Competition (Northern Bavaria District, 2022), and a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association Würzburg (2023). She has received significant artistic inspiration through masterclasses with, among others, KS Brigitte Fassbaender, Laura Aikin, Werner Güra, KS Thomas Quasthoff, Christiane Iven, Julia Kleiter, Marlis Petersen, Anne Le Bozec, and Arnold Bezuyen.
She is also active in ensemble and choral singing, with engagements including the choir of the Mainfrankentheater Würzburg, the SWR Vocal Ensemble, and the MDR Radio Choir. In the a cappella field, she was supported by the Leipzig ensemble amarcord.
